About me

Hi, my name is James!

I’m a UX/UI Designer, with over 15 years’ experience of delivering engaging, creative content to some of the biggest brands in the world.

My passion is creating simple, clean experiences that just work for the customer, across all devices.

My most recent role was acting as Senior UX/UI Designer for MTVH, one of the UK’s largest housing associations, a contract role which lasted over 6 years. During this period I took the SO Resi shared ownership website from being a basic agency-designed brochure site to a tuned website featuring industry-leading self-service functionality.

Earlier in my career, I spent over 10 years working for British Airways as UX/UI Designer / Creative Lead on ba.com, one of the world’s busiest websites. I’m therefore no stranger to my work being seen and used by literally millions of customers, worldwide. I acted as Lead UX/UI Designer to create a new responsive, personalised homepage for ba.com, a high-profile multi-million pound project to change the customers’ initial experience of the site. Earlier work included UI Design work on both promotional content such as UK and US seat sales, microsites, brands pages and flight selling and servicing functionality.

I have also worked as a front-end developer, which gives me an understanding of how pages are built, enabling me to design within technical limitations, prototype in the browser and have more meaningful conversations with developers. It’s amazing how few UX/UI Designers actually understand how their creations are built, yet it’s a vital skill.

Finally, I have also run my own business as a freelance creative, which brings with it its own set of challenges. In 2015 I delivered a large project celebrating 30 years of Nissan Motors in the North East through photography, film and digital media.

A team player and people-person, with excellent inter-personal and communication skills, I’m currently looking for contracting positions.
